INDIGENOUS PATHWAYS / COINCIDENCE CORNERS

Coincidence is a medium. A play with serendipity. Found books provide fodder.

The collages began with figures cut from a photograph of a mural depicting indigenous life taken in Playa Escondido, Oaxaca. Boats from a Jonas Lies catalogue of paintings; a cat, some sculptures, and brooms Joseph Solomon included in paintings of his studio were added next.
Paintings by Kandinsky, animal species by Joris Hoefnagel, indigenous the first paintings on record of indigenous people of Brazil by Albert Eckhout- a shell by Carravagio were extracted from a vintage FMR magazine.

The backgrounds of these two collages, painted with gouache & India ink, are based on a Kimono pattern in the found book Clothes of Samurai Warriors (included)
